Recently I got sucked in on Instagram looking at lovely images of kitchen storage. Specifically I was amazed about bread storage. All stylish and custom made and the most beautiful and clever options you can imagine.

It’s very easy to get stuck like that, dreamy eyed and with high hopes of one day designing a brand new renovated kitchen that will fit your needs perfectly. Wouldn’t you just love having a brand new perfect kitchen? But maybe a renovation is not on the cards at the moment (raising my hand over here). Or maybe you are renting and any modifications are simply not possible (that was me for a very, very long time).

Whichever the case, today I’m sharing with you a slice of my kitchen, in the hope to inspire you to think outside the box. You can create your capsule kitchen with what you’ve got!

simple kitchen storage ideas

In the back you can spot my Vitamix blender and a stick blender. Both I use so often that it’s great for me to have them right there.

In my effort to try and keep the counter top clear (not always easy!!), I have now found a new spot for our bread. When you google bread in drawers you can find fascinating customized drawers – insert kitchen envy. But you can also just use one of those containers until your dream kitchen becomes a reality :). It fits the bread knife too.

create a breakfast station

breakfast supplies in drawer in glass containers with lid on

I have a thing for breakfasts. But whilst I love trying new things and am all for creating a breakfast buffet, in the rush of the week we often fall back on staples:

  • oats with almond milk, hazelnuts and coconut sugar
  • spelt semolina pudding
  • toast with jam or vegemite

By keeping these staples on hand in this way, it is easier in the mornings to gather them to the table. I’ve also added

  • chia seeds

because I would like to make chia pudding more often and keep forgetting about them. Now I’ll be reminded of them each time I open the drawer.

You can also make a breaky grab and go station if that’s what you need! A mix of muesli bars maybe. Whatever fits your lifestyle best. The porridge oats you see on the photo were an accidental buy by my mum when she was visiting. We normally don’t keep single packaged ones. But this morning they came in very handy when Reg was running late and didn’t have time to prepare his normal muesli jar.

Just keep it simple. A breakfast station doesn’t need to be a fully stocked pantry replacement.

salt, pepper and spices

spices and salt in drawer

On the left hand side are my spices, salt and pepper. Normally I have more jars of different salt, but I’ve run out and need to stock up again!
In the front I keep the things that I use all the time. In the back you see all the rest of the spices. It’s really handy because the stove is just on the left of this drawer, so when I’m cooking I just need to reach over.

have fun with your drawers

They are not just for tucking things away or keeping things organized. You can use them as essential kitchen helpers, by keeping everything that you use often close by. Until that butler’s pantry becomes a reality ;).

Much love,
