How many packets of nuts and seeds are in your pantry with only just a little bit left in them? They certainly accumulate in my house… And when they hang around too long you kinda get sick of them too, right? It’s like an annoying reminder that you should be making a healthy snack with them. But each time you happen to see them you can’t quite think of something to use them for. And at the same time you don’t want to waste them either!
So what is a girl to do with all these leftover bits and pieces?
A jar of goodness
Generally I have 3 jars of nuts and 3 jars of seeds on hand most of the time. Sometimes more when I bought something for a specific recipe. So this used to happen to me all the time. Until a little while ago I started to keep a leftover jar and it’s been a big help in keeping my pantry organized and full of fresh (!) ingredients.
Whenever there’s only a little bit left of the nuts and seeds I have in the house, I tip them in my designated leftover jar.
And when that’s filled up I make spiced quinoa granola for example.
Or spiced glazed nuts.
And you could add a boost to your morning muesli and overnight oats.
The possibilities are endless.
It matters how you feel about what you have in your pantry
So why not have a little look around in your pantry and collect all the bits and pieces that could find a new home in your leftover jar.
There’s just something about having a jar full of a nut and seed mix that suddenly feels less like sad leftovers at the bottom of a pack, and more like a special feel good mix.
Then find that one recipe you love, that contains mixed nuts and you can use the leftover jar for it.
It doesn’t matter if you have to add some newly bought nuts to the mix for the recipe you want to make. All that matters is that you can use up all the loose ends and then start fresh! If you do this on a regular basis you will never have nuts and seeds going stale (or get annoyed at them for hanging around).
Bonus: if you switch up the nuts you keep at home, over time you will have added a great variety to your diet. With very little effort!
Much love,
